In these pages I keep occasional notes, for example in response to frequently-asked questions from readers of my National Review Online column.

The "Navigate down" section in the bar at the left shows what's available.

Just one note right here up front, because it doesn't really justify a page of its own.  I get a lot of questions about the pronunciation of my name.  I'm not fussy about it, and am pretty much used to "DER-be-SHY-er," but for the record, it's "DAH-bi-shuh".  It's the name of an English county (though not the one I was born in), and the people who live in the county pronounce it that way; it's hard to argue with that.  Don't feel bad if you didn't know this:  the river that flows through my home town is the Nene, pronounced "Nen" by the people who live on its banks and "Neen" by everyone else, including even the BBC.
